After 14 years, Olivier Rousteing is stepping down as Creative Director of Balmain closing one of the most defining chapters in modern French fashion.
When he took over the house in 2011 at just 25, Rousteing became one of the youngest creative leaders in Paris since Yves Saint Laurent and the first Black designer to lead a major French maison. He wrote, “I am deeply proud of all that I’ve accomplished, and profoundly grateful to my exceptional team at Balmain my chosen family in a place that has been my home for the past 14 years.”
During his tenure, Balmain became a rare blend of craftsmanship and cultural relevance a house that felt rooted in Paris but alive to the global moment.
As Rachid Mohamed Rachid noted, his leadership “redefined the boundaries of fashion” through creativity, authenticity, and inclusivity values that now feel inseparable from the brand itself.
